Hey, Justin here!
Pokémon 151 is one of those sets that just makes sense to display. It has the original starters, Mew, Mewtwo, Zapdos, Alakazam, Erika, and a bunch of cards that hit the nostalgia button pretty hard. This isn’t a “most expensive cards in the set” list. It’s just a list of cards I think look great on a shelf, desk, wall, or card display.

Charizard ex
Let’s get the obvious one out of the way. Charizard ex is one of the easiest cards from Pokémon 151 to build a display around. You can display it by itself, but I think it looks best with Charmander and Charmeleon chained together The full evolution line just feels right.
Blastoise ex
Blastoise ex is another great one. The colours are strong, the card has a lot of presence, and it works really well if you want a water-themed display. Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise together would make a really clean little setup.
Venusaur ex
Venusaur ex has a totally different feel. It’s not as loud as Charizard, but that’s kind of why I like it. It has more of a calm, earthy look. If you like grass-type cards, plant-heavy artwork, or the original starter trio, Venusaur is a solid one to display.
Mew ex
Mew cards almost always display well. Mew ex from 151 is a nice simple pick because it doesn’t need a huge setup around it. You can put it on a stand or in a case by itself and it still looks good. Sometimes that’s better than trying to overdo the whole display.
Alakazam ex
Alakazam ex is a fun one because it’s not just another starter card. It has its own style, and it stands out a bit from the rest of the set. If you like Psychic-type Pokémon, this is probably one of the better 151 cards to show off,
Zapdos ex
Zapdos ex has more action to it. Some cards feel calm andome feel like they’re moving. This one definitely has that more energetic look!
Erika’s Invitation
Trainer cards are not for everyone, but Erika’s Invitation is a good display card. It has a softer look compared to the big Pokémon ex cards, and it fits nicely if you collect trainer cards or grass-type themes. Not every display needs to be Charizard front and center.

The Illustration Rares
The illustration rares are probably my favourite part of 151 for display. All 9 of them work as an AMAZING artwork centerpiece. Charmander, Charmeleon, Squirtle, Wartortle, Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and the other illustration rares all feel like little scenes.
Those are usually the cards that work best in a display case.

Quick FAQ
What is the best Pokémon 151 card to display?
Charizard ex is probably the easiest answer, but Mew ex, Blastoise ex, Venusaur ex, Zapdos ex, Alakazam ex, and the illustration rares are all great display cards too.
Should I display graded or ungraded Pokémon 151 cards?
Either works. If the card is already graded, a graded case makes sense. If it’s raw, an ungraded case is usually the way to go.
Do I need expensive cards to make a good display?
No. Some of the best display cards are just cards with great artwork. The best card to display is usually the one you actually like looking at.
What is the easiest Pokémon 151 display idea?
Pick one evolution line and display all three cards together. Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard is the obvious one, but Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise or Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur work really well too.
Keep It Simple
Pokémon 151 has a lot of cards worth displaying. Some are big chase cards. Some are just fun to look at. That’s usually the sweet spot for me. Pick the cards you like, set them up in a way that looks good, and don’t overthink it too much.
